This week has been a crazy month, adding to that was health issues for my beloved dog, Negrita, but the trip to Animal Hospital in Sabaneta was well worth it.

Animal Hospital brought me peace.

This week has been one of the worst months I've had since moving to Medellin. First we have our idiot presidents in a moronic showdown that affects our lives in a terrible way, then the Kansas City Chiefs won, then I had the worst thing of all happen - My beloved dog, Negrita got sick. Not to put her business in the streets, but she is a stomach cancer survivor, so when she, a Cocker Spaniel refuses chicken, broccoli and carrots, it's a cause for concern. There is only one place I've taken her, and that's Animal Hospital in Sabaneta.

We have come back three days in a row, and it is worth it. She has had 3 rounds if IV drugs and an EKG. She also got ketamine last night so she could sleep, so my dog went on a Special-K trip - legally of course. Not only has she received top notch care from Dr. Laura, but she is on her way to recovering.

Peace of mind

The biggest concern was her cancer coming back, but the EKG showed she was still cancer free. So when she took the vitamins and medicines today, I had a peace of mind I haven't had since before she got sick. Sadly for her, she's not getting ketamine today, but she's making strides and that is all that matters. Everyone from the front desk to the nurses to the doctors is very helpful, and actually cares about the cats and dogs that come through the door. The waiting room is always packed with people looking for the same peace of mind I have been looking for. No pet is treated any better or worse than the others. Which is something that is great to see.

24 Hour Service

The thing that sets them apart is that they are one of the few animal clinics that is available 24 hours. Our babies don't get sick only during business hours after all. So it is a long drive from Medellin, even more so when your baby is not feeling right, but it is well worth the trip. Peace of mind is one of those priceless things, and you can get that at any hour necessary.

Cost Effective Care

I won't throw anyone under the bus, but I've taken my dog to another animal clinic in El Poblado and JUST the inital consultation was $413,000cop. Negrita spent no more than 5 minutes with her doctor, and then they wanted to keep her overnight for observation, though that was not at all necessary. I suspect it was because they have a $275,000 per night fee for that. In contrast, Animal Hospital is about 395,000 for 3 days of care including an ultrasound on her abdomen to look for cancer, 3 IV treatments, including medicine and the aforementioned ketamine. The difference is that Animal Hospital is more concerned with the care of the pets of Colombia than gringo pricing.

There Is No Other Choice

If your cat or dog is not feeling well, you have a few choices, you can overpay in Poblado or Laureles for overpriced care that is more focused on getting money than getting your money than getting your beloved pets feeling better fast, Sabaneta's own Animal Hospital is the place for you.

They are located at Cl. 70 Sur #43a 34 in Sabaneta, call them at +576043668080 and you can find them on Instagram at @animalhospitalantioquia.
