I'll admit I'm new-ish to this whole dog ownership thing. Before my beloved Negrita adopted me, I had never had a dog of my own. My ex brought her dog, Venus to live with us, but she was never 'my' dog. She ended up loving me because I was the one that walked and played with her, but when Negra entered my life, I was hooked. The amount of love you give to them and they give back is incredible. If you've read my other articles, she was very sick in January and I almost lost her, but with the help of Animal Hospital in Sabaneta, she's as spry as her 15-year old body will let her be. I waited until she was feeling better to get her groomed.

Grooming with love

While Negra was definitely getting shaggier than Cocker Spaniels should be, I knew exactly who she would be groomed by. I've taken her to many groomers all over the city and none seem to do what I want with her. They all put bows in her hair, and those last all of 45 seconds once she gets home. Not to mention, she is a little withdrawn after going to the groomers. She'll hide in her bedroom, aka the shelves in my closet, after visiting the groomers.

That is until I had her groomed at home by Lili of Kony's Kuts. Now I know this is going to sound a little like nepotism, but Lili is the wife of one of my best friends, but when it comes to my dog, my loyalty is to her. She has been comfortable with Lili from the first time she was groomed by her. I think the fact that the grooming happened at home helped out a ton. When you make an appointment with Lili, she brings everything she will need. You will just need to have a place to do it. She also cleans up all of the hair, so you won't even know she was there other than having a clean and trimmed dog.

Advantages of a Home Groomer

Other than the first part I already spoke of, your dog (or cat) will be groomed at home, so they are in their environment. That will help with them being comfy and lessen the anxiety of bringing them somewhere. The biggest advantage is the groomer herself. While Negra is potentially the most social dog in Medellin, she HATES people touching her paws, and brushing her teeth. Lili has no issue with that. She is kind of a dog whisperer in that way. Not to mention, you can have her groom your dog while you do other things. This way your dog will feel comfortable at home.

Also there is a cost factor. There are 2 groomers close to my house, and I've been to both. I had to take time out of my day, go there, drop her off and a couple of hours later, go pick her up. So now I have the cost of a ride there, and back. Then the prices of the grooming is 65mil on top of all of that. The total trip to get Negrita groomed always ended up being 90mil more or less, not to mention the time taken. With Lili it is 65mil for her to come to you, and that's it. Granted, Negra is a small/medium dog, and bigger dogs will be more, but you get the idea. She has also been in business for a couple of years and is the most trustworthy person you could ask for. That is a very big thing as well.
