Free Entry to Medellín’s El Castillo Museum This Friday – What to Expect and How to Visit

This Friday, May 16, Museo El Castillo is opening its gates for free. If you’ve ever wanted to step inside a European-style castle without leaving Medellín, this is your chance.

Built in the 1930s and inspired by French Gothic architecture, the museum looks like it was lifted straight out of the Loire Valley. But it’s right here in El Poblado, tucked into one of the city's quietest and most scenic corners. The castle’s interior feels frozen in time—ornate furniture, stained glass windows, and classical paintings give you a glimpse into the lives of the wealthy Echavarría family, who once called it home.

The gardens are the real surprise. They're wide, peaceful, and perfect for a stroll or a quiet sit with a view over the valley. You won’t find crowds here like you do in Comuna 13 or Parque Arví. It’s one of the few places in Medellín where you can genuinely slow down.

Museo El Castillo is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. this Friday. Entry is completely free for all visitors. Normally, tickets cost around 16,000 pesos, so if you’ve been curious but hesitant to pay, now’s the time to go.

How to Get There:

The easiest way is by taxi or rideshare. Just tell the driver: Museo El Castillo, Calle 9 Sur #32-269. From most parts of Medellín, the ride takes under 15 minutes. Parking is available on-site.

Bring a camera, some sunblock, and a little curiosity. Whether you're into history, architecture, or just looking for a quiet escape, this is one of Medellín’s more underrated spots.

Make a plan. Go early. Stay awhile. You’ll leave impressed.
