Korea’s Famous Fried Chicken, BB•Q Finally Lands in Medellin

BB.Q Chicken just landed in Medellín and I tested the U.F.O. Chicken to see if this is a real upgrade to the city’s fried chicken scene or just imported hype with a pretty logo. If you want the quick ordering plan that protects your wallet and your night out, this is the one read that saves you time.

BB.Q Chicken Medellín Review: Is Korea’s “Best of the Best Quality” Fried Chicken Worth It in Colombia?

  • The U.F.O. Chicken is the best possible first order because it samples four flavors over cheese fondue and tells you fast if you actually like the flavors.

  • BB•Q frames itself as a global chain founded in 1995 with thousands of locations so the concept is proven and the Medellín question is execution.

  • U.S. buzz is real enough that bb.q shows up in Yelp’s “Most Loved” talk and Taste of Home coverage claims it beat major chicken chains in ranking.

  • Great date spot, but also a great place to just get a taste of incredible Korean cuisine that is eaten by every K-Pop star you have and haven't heard of.

BB.Q Chicken just made its first real appearance in Colombia and Medellín gets the privilege og being the first city in Colombia to have this global sensation call it home. Upon coming here, they really looked around and saw that there are a few places doing Korean fried chicken, but the one that has a pretty authentic flavor is serving another niche and saw a real opportunity to bring Korean casual dining to the heart of Provenza.

BB.Q sells itself hard on the meaning of its name, “Best of the Best Quality,” and they tie that promise to the idea that Korean fried chicken is not just fried chicken with a trendy sauce, it’s a texture game and a heavily reliant on process and consistency, with the brand claiming decades of refinement since launching in Seoul in 1995 and scaling into thousands of locations worldwide. When you eat the chicken, you can taste that dedication to getting it right.

That global scale matters because it changes the question you should ask as a Medellín customer, since the concept is already proven and the only thing left is whether the local execution stays sharp long term. We all know restaurants that start out with the best of intentions, but drop in quality as time goes on. The process and management's dedication to quality is apparent in every detail in the restaurant.

I ordered the U.F.O. Chicken because it’s the most honest first test on their menu, since it gives the kitchen to showcase their best four flavors are in one platter. It's been described as an “explosive combination” which has a very cool steam show to kickstart your experience, and a melted cheese fondue with 20 pieces mixing their chicken offerings - Golden Fried, Secret Sauce, Cheesling and Spicy Galbi.

I will tell you that it is is a bunch of food, and a solid play for a date night or just a night out, since you get variety and you learn your personal favorite fast, but if you try to solo it like a hero you are definitely going to not be able to finish it. I think I understood the real meaning of U.F.O. here because the flavors are on another planet. If you are a local, you've never experienced this. Generally speaking, I have high expectations for Asian cuisine, being from California, but this one measures up to any Korean chicken I had back home. That's fairly high praise.

The international proof piece is also real, BB.Q in the U.S. has shown up in Yelp’s “Most Loved” brand conversation for 2025 and there’s reporting that Taste of Home ranked BB.Q as top casual dining fried chicken ahead of some massive names, which tells you customers are just liking, they’re actively choosing it, even in the face other possible choices. This tells you the full story.

So here’s the practical Medellín take, go with friends or a date, order the U.F.O. if it’s your first time, treat it like a taste adventure instead of a single-flavor gamble, then decide what you would reorder next time based on your own palate rather than the comments section, because Medellín rewards people who make plans and punishes people who wing it.
