I had the pleasure of sitting down with a good friend, Mayan Benedicto, the guardian of possibly one of the best resources in Medellin for people looking to make connections in any way here in Medellin, aptly named Medellin Community (mdecommunity.com), puts on the incredible "Beyond small talk" events and she also oversees the meeting place for Expats in Laureles, La Casa. It's an event center, meeting place and co-working spot open to all. Oh, and she's also a new mom. How do we nominate someone for Superwoman status?
Who is Mayan?
Mayan arrived in Medellín with a vision: to build a true community, not just another social club. She saw a gap—people looking for meaningful connections, professional opportunities, and ways to give back.
“MDE Community isn’t just about networking—it’s about creating real relationships, supporting one another, and making a positive impact on the city we call home.” — Mayan
What is MDE Community?
MDE Community has become the go-to hub for:
Networking Events: Bringing together entrepreneurs, remote workers, and creatives.
Local Impact Projects: From charity initiatives to cultural exchange programs, they give back to Medellín.
Personal Growth: Workshops, mentorships, and skill-building opportunities to help members thrive.
Why It Matters
Medellín’s expat scene is growing, but not every newcomer integrates well. MDE Community bridges that gap by fostering connections that go beyond surface-level meetups. It’s about building a Medellín where both locals and foreigners can thrive together.
In our nearly 45 minute chat, we discussed what trends we are seeing in Medellin, where we see things going in the future and what the state of community is. Not to mention, breast feeding at Starbucks.
If you want to know more about Mayan, La Casa or any of the community meetups she curates, everything is on her website, linked below, as well as her Instagram. She did say she's accepting husband applications as well - Slide into her DMs with your pitch!

If you are new to Medellin, or are missing that sense of community, please check out her website and scroll through the community options, and do yourself a favor and check out one of her "Beyond the small talk" events. I've met some amazing people in these events, and you will too. It's introvert and extrovert friendly as well.
Please like, share, comment on the video, and I'd be honored if you considered subscribing to our YouTube channel.
