Shakira Rocks Sold-Out Medellín Concert With Surprise Maluma Appearance and Salsa Remix of "Chantaje"
After a canceled show and some healthy skepticism on my part, Shakira brought the house down in Medellín with a sold-out concert at Estadio Atanasio Girardot. Maluma popped in for a surprise salsa remix of "Chantaje," and yes, I'm now fully converted. Turns out, doubting Shakira was my biggest L of the year.

Shakira Performs In Shakira’s Medellín Concert Delivers Big, Maluma Joins for Surprise Salsa Remix
Shakira returned to Medellín after nearly 30 years, performing to a sold-out crowd at Estadio Atanasio Girardot as part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour, and opened with a heartfelt apology for the earlier cancellation.
Maluma made a surprise appearance, joining her on stage for a salsa-infused remix of Chantaje, which instantly became the highlight of the night and had fans calling for an official salsa version.
The concert went off without a hitch, a major upgrade from past stadium chaos, and proved why Shakira remains Colombia’s most iconic global superstar.
I am man enough to admit when I am wrong. I posted an article last month when the Shakira concert was cancelled, and I was slightly critical of the promoters and Shakira's camp for cancelling her much anticipated concert in Medellin. There were safety concerns with the venue and also with Shakira's possible health, but nobody would say precisely why the concert was cancelled. Most of my ire was directed at the ticket scalpers who were overcharging for tickets as much as 3x in some cases.
Fast forward to last night, Shakira made her return to Medellín after nearly three decades, performing at the Estadio Atanasio Girardot as part of her "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" tour. Her show was nothing short of glorious, and the highlight of the night was the surprise appearance of local hero Maluma, who joined her on stage to perform their hit song "Chantaje."
The collaboration between Shakira and Maluma electrified the audience, and to make the song an even more uniquely paisa moment, they performed a unique salsa-infused rendition of their popular track. This performance not only thrilled fans but also underscored the strong musical bond between the two Colombian artists, and the audience ate it up. I asked several fans after the concert what they thought of the salsa rendition of the song and everyone agreed that there should be a salsa remix of Chantaje, and I have to be honest, I agree.
Shakira's return to Medellín was met with immense enthusiasm, reflecting her enduring connection with the city and its people. There was a heart felt apology from Shakira herself at the beginning of the set, and I immediately felt bad for questioning her. The entirety of the concert was a testament to her ability to captivate audiences and deliver memorable performances. There is a reason she is an international superstar and the most iconic and recognizable singer to come out of Colombia.
All in all, the night was a rousing success. I remember the debacle of when Karol G was here last year and how the security at the stadium mishandled the event, resulting in 4-5 hours waits to enter the concert. Everything flowed smoother, and I'm hopeful that the stadium security division has taken this as a way to handle entry moving forward.
I went into this literally knowing two Shakira songs, and left understanding why she is HER. I'm glad everything came together, and the show was so successful, for Shakira, the event promoters, the city of Medellin and most importantly for the fans who felt ripped off last time. For once I will say, I'm glad I was wrong. Well done, Shakira.
